Straight from the jazz-loving roaring 1920s, this F. Scott Fitzgerald classic explodes onto the Coliseum’s stage. With grand scenery which mirrors the grand homes on the island, to prop cars that bring the show to life.
This show brings back elements of ‘classic’ musicals with big company numbers, big scenery, big props and even a splash of tap.
The cast is outstanding, amazing vocals and characterisation, Corbin Bleu has to be the standout as Nick Carraway, from the moment he walked on to the stage, he captivates the audience with Nick’s life, from leaving the army to becoming Gatsby’s (Jamie Muscato) wingman, in his quest to win back his war sweetheart Daisy (Frances Mayli McCann). We watch as he falls in love with Jordan (Amber Davies) despite her often short tone towards relationships and marriage and navigates learning that his first impressions are not always as they seem.
Despite the size and talent of the cast, the actual content of the show falls flat. While the songs have been incredibly popular across social media, the era of the show is lost to a more modern sound. The choreography is stunning and a joy to watch, fitting the music style however again felt it lets the era down.
If you love the classic feel of a show with a modern twist then this show is absolutely for you, although I would happily see it again for the cast alone!

And can we talk about how stunning the Coliseum is! The perfect theatre to house a show like Gatsby for its run on the West End.
